I made this wall hanging using Butterfly mat( plastic canvas mat)...It was a very old craft...Most of us did this in our school days....i also made one so many years ago...it was in my mom place...so i decided to make one for my house...so here is the result...i hope u all like it....
Below picture are the closer view of the wall hanging...Required materials are woollen thread(any two color), decorative items of your choices...i used kundan stones, small golden leaves....Actually i used violet color and light green for this mat....but i am not able to bring the beauty of the mat in my photo...(it looks more nice in real than the photo)...soon meet u all with my another work....

You are right it is an old craft but whenever we make old pattern crafts they will give us incredible, old crafts always looks great like this that you have made. It's really looking great in Center portion picture. Nice to read your post, thanks for sharing.
